WisBlock consists of WisBlock Base, WisBlock Core, WisBlock Sensor, and WisBlock IO.
- WisBlock Core: RAK4631 is the code name for the WisBlock LPWAN Module.
The core consists of the Nordic nRF52840 MCU and a SX1262 LoRa® transceiver chip, mainly. It supports LoRa® and BLE 5.0 functions. WisBlock is a functional test capable product and an industrial product oriented to mass production. It uses a high-speed connector to ensure the integrity of the signal and it is equipped with fastening screws between the boards, against vibrations, to increase robustness and reliability in various civil and industrial scenarios passing rigorous reliability tests.

The compact size makes it easy for users to build in various customized housings to achieve complete products. There is already a bootloader in every WisBlock core board MCU when you receive the device. Normally, you only need to use it directly or upload new code into it through Arduino IDE. (The RAK4631 is included in the RAKwireless Arduino BSP).
The main features of the WisBlock core module are :
- TCXO crystal for LoRa chip
- I/O ports: UART/I2C/GPIO/USB
- SPI pins and optional NFC interface are accessible using WisBlock IO module
- Temperature range: -40 °C to +85 °C
- Supply voltage: 2.0 ~ 3.6 V
- Low-Power Wireless Systems with 7.8 KHz to 500 KHz Bandwidth
- Ultra-Low Power Consumption 2.0 uA in sleep mode
- LoRa PA Boost mode with 22 dBm output power
- 0 (Tx power -20 to +4 dBm in 4dB steps)
- Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interface
- Module size: 20 x 30 mm
- WisBlock Base: RAK5005-O | WisBlock Base Board.
Is the base of the board featuring (four) slots and a USB interface.

- WisBlock Sensor:
WisBlock Sensor offers a range of sensors for sensing environmental conditions (temperature and humidity), location, and movement conditions (GNSS location and accelerometer). They are easy to install just by plugging them into the WisBase to complete your application with the required sensors. All sensors are offered with complete instructions and for mounting and libraries installation.
The available sensors in the KIT are listed below:
- RAK1901 | WisBlock Temperature and Humidity Sensor
- RAK1902 | WisBlock Barometer Pressure Sensor
- RAK1903 | WisBlock Ambient Light Sensor
- RAK1904 | WisBlock 3-axis Acceleration Sensor
- RAK1906 | WisBlock Environmental Sensor
- RAK1910 | WisBlock GNSS Location Module
Example: Let’s take the Temperature and Humidity Sensor. It consists of the board RAK1901 , that feature an I2C interface, to connected with RAK5005-O through the I2C slot (SLOT A/B/C/D) and the SHTC3 which is the digital humidity and temperature sensor designed especially for battery-driven high-volume consumer electronics applications.
This sensor is designed to overcome limits for size, power consumption, and performance to price ratio by Sensirion’s CMOSens® consisting of:
- capacitive humidity sensor
- bandgap temperature sensor,
- analog and digital signal processing,
- A/D converter,
- calibration data memory,
- digital communication interface supporting I2C Fast Mode Plus in a small 2 × 2 × 0.75 mm3 DFN package.
The sensor covers a humidity measurement range of 0 to 100 %RH and a temperature measurement range of – 40 °C to 125 °C with a typical accuracy of ±2 %RH and ±0.2°C. The broad supply voltage of 1.62 V to 3.6 V with low energy budget below per measurement make the SHTC3 suitable for mobile or wireless applications powered by batteries. The SHTC3 library is ready to use and there are detailed instructions on how to install the RAK-nRF52-Arduino, RAKwireless Arduino BSP and SparkFun SHTC3 library from the library manager from the Arduino IDE and ready to run example code.

- WisBlock Interface:
WisBlock Interface modules provide your application with interfaces to other systems using digital and analog inputs and industry standards like RS485 or 4-20mA communication.
- RAK1920 | WisBlock Sensor Adapter Module

- RAK5801 | WisBlock 4-20mA Interface Module

- RAK5802 | WisBlock RS485 Interface Module

- RAK5804 | WisBlock Interface Extension Module

- RAK5811 | WisBlock 0-5V Interface Module

Besides all WisBlock modules and all required antennas, this kit comes with a handy manual screwdriver that makes it easy to fix the modules on the RAK5005-O baseboard.
Make sure to check that you included:
